Col. Alan K. Louie is the senior materiel leader - lower, Aerial Networks Division, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. He is responsible for executing $900M annually to acquire, field, and sustain a secure and robust command and control infrastructure for US Air Force, joint, and coalition users. He is the U.S. Air Force Airborne Network acquisition lead for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Combatant Commands, Air Staff, and Major Command communications systems and requirements. Louie also oversees the management of communication programs vital to establishing and sustaining the Global Information Grid, tactical data links, and quick reaction programs that provide urgently needed communication capability to down range operators. He provides leadership and management oversight for over 300 military, government civilian, and support contract personnel.
Louie entered the Air Force in October 2003, receiving his commission through Officer Training School. In his 21 years of service, his acquisitions career has spanned armaments, A-10 aircraft, nuclear command and control, space-based sensors, and information systems across laboratories, program offices, operational test, and sustainment. He has also served as the Executive Officer for the Air Force Operational Test & Evaluation Center as well as the Joint Special Operations Air Component-Central. Additionally, he is a graduate of the School of Advanced Nuclear Deterrence Studies.
Prior to his current position, Louie was the chief for the Intelligence Systems Division, at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Information Directorate, Air Force Materiel Command, Rome, New York. He led a team of 162 military and civilian personnel developing technologies for the fusion, handling, and exploitation of information in support of the Intelligence Community and the Department of the Air Force.
