Col. Scott A. Rothermel serves as the Senior Materiel Leader, Command and Control, Intelligence, Surveillance Reconnaissance (C2ISR) Division at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, in support of the Department of the Air Force Program Executive Office for Command, Control, Communications and Battle Management (DAF PEO C3BM). Col. Rothermel’s C2ISR Division provides worldwide logistics life cycle support across the spectrum of the C2ISR capabilities-based enterprise; including supply, distribution, materiel management, acquisition, system engineering, maintenance, financial planning, budgeting, security, flight test, contracting functions, and execution of modernization efforts.
Col. Rothermel supports C3BM in the development of a diverse portfolio of products and programs to assist with C3BM’s integrated DAF BATTLE NETWORK; including the Air Force Distributed Common Ground System, the Global Command and Control System-AF, the Extended Tether Program, and other C2ISR programs.
The DAF BATTLE NETWORK is the integrated system-of-systems connecting sensor, effector, and logistics systems providing better situational awareness, faster operational decisions, and decisive direction to the force.
Col. Rothermel earned his commission in 1996 as a distinguished graduate of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at South Dakota State University. Col. Rothermel's previous assignments include Senior Military Assistant for the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics; Vice Commander of a data masked organization; the Senior Materiel Leader of the Fighters and Bombers Special Programs Division; Deputy for the Command, Control, Communication, and Information Infrastructure Division; Test Squadron Commander at a data masked organization; and Joint Systems Program Director at the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from South Dakota State University, Brooking, South Dakota, and a master’s degree in computer science from the Air Institute of Technology, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
He was an Air Force Fellow at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and at the Idaho National Laboratory. He holds Level III Acquisition Professional Development Program certification in Program Management, and Test and Evaluation.
