Master Sergeant Michael W. Hartel is the Senior Enlisted Leader for the Director of Intelligence, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center. In this role, he is responsible for supporting over 178 analysts and engineers at eight geographically separated locations in providing Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) analysis, information, and support for developing and sustaining warfighting systems, focusing primarily on threat definition and assessments, geospatial information and services, and ISR Infrastructure. Additionally, Sergeant Hartel is the Senior Enlisted Leader for the 21st Intelligence Squadron, the Air Force’s sole acquisitions aligned intelligence squadron supporting 11 Program Executive Offices, Directorate budgeting for 7 divisions, SCI Security management and classified information tools for Air Force Life Cycle Management Center and numerous Wright Patterson Air Force Base Agencies.
Prior to his current assignment, Sergeant Hartel was the Chief, Weapons and Tactics, 8th Intelligence Squadron, 692nd Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. He was responsible for developing, standardizing, training intelligence threat knowledge and improving adversary baseline knowledge for 330 analysts.
Sergeant Hartel has over 17 years of intelligence operations and instructor experience, having served in a variety of assignments. He has conducted unit-level intelligence, supporting fighter operations and joint assignments in USINDOPACOM and CENTCOM and multiple Large Force exercises. Sergeant Hartel is a graduate of and former instructor at the United States Air Force Weapons School.
