HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Hanscom Fitness and Sports Center will be reopening only to active-duty military and Guard and Reserve members on active duty orders during Phase 2A of the multiphase Return to Full Capacity.

Beginning June 22, the Fitness Center will open at 6 a.m., and operate on a 60-minute-on, 30-minute-off rotation for cleaning.

“There will be a workout shift from 6 to 7 a.m., and then the facility will close from 7 to 7:30 a.m. for our staff to clean the entire facility,” said Capt. Shaun Berger, 66th Force Support Squadron Sustainment Services Flight commander. “It will open back from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., and so on until closing at 8 p.m.”

Weekend and holiday hours will include the same rotation schedule from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 24/7 access to the facility is currently unavailable.

The facility will max capacity at 62 patrons per workout shift. Members must sign up for a workout shift in advance at https://www.waitlist.me/w/11690700018. Users should select “Make Reservation,” and enter date and time. Reservations can be made up to one week in advance with a limit of one workout shift per day.

According to FSS officials, once the 62-person cap is reached, others will be placed on a separate waitlist and can call the Fitness Center at the beginning of a workout shift to fill in for no-shows.

“This number was determined by the amount of equipment and space in the facility, as well blocking off every other machine,” said Berger.

All patrons must continue to wear face coverings while inside the facility.

Berger said officials recommend patrons bring a second face covering for post-workout wear.

Patrons are able to utilize restrooms, but locker rooms, showers, saunas, and the indoor track are all currently closed. Group workouts and classes are currently prohibited, and equipment check out is unavailable.

“There is single-use available for the basketball nets, but patrons must bring their own equipment,” said Berger. “All workouts must be individual.”

While staff members will be on site for cleaning, officials from the 66 FSS ask that patrons still ensure they wipe down equipment after each use.

“The health and safety of our community was our top priority throughout this planning process, and we ask our patrons to keep their health and that of our staff and community in mind as well,” said Berger.
