HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Air Force Materiel Command's commander, Gen. Arnold W. Bunch, Jr., and 17 community leaders from around the country visited Hill Air Force Base Oct. 21-22, touring facilities and learning more about impactful missions here.

The civic leaders are members of the command's Civic Leader Program, a group of people representing each of the communities where AFMC has installations or a major organization.

The CLP meets twice annually to hear updates on AFMC and Air Force issues, to share information with the AFMC commander, and to brainstorm ideas of mutual benefit.

“The civic leaders are very important to me and I cherish my time with them,” Bunch said. “We count on them to be our ‘eyes and ears’ in local base communities. They play a critical role in helping us to communicate our mission and help us to better understand our impacts in local communities.”

During the annual CLP events and throughout the year, the group confers on wide-ranging topics of interest, including mission growth, acquisition reform and community support. They also provide inputs on AFMC areas of focus, offering external external perspectives on education and workforce development, recapitalization and finance, energy use and conservation, and civilian hiring challenges.

At Hill, the civic leaders had an opportunity to speak to subject matter experts working in F-35 depot maintenance and sustainment, agile software development and operations, and the Ground Base Strategic Deterrent program, among others.

“This is an important program, as community support is vital to our success,” said Col. Jon Eberlan, 75th Air Base Wing commander. “The CLP provides an opportunity to strengthen partnerships with community leaders while giving us the opportunity to share Air Force priorities and progress.”

Bunch said he enjoyed his visit to Hill and looks forward to spending more time here in the future.
