The B‑52 nearly died multiple times before it flew. Early turboprop designs weren’t better than the B‑36, so in 1948 Col. Pete Warden forced Boeing to switch to an all‑jet concept. Boeing redesigned the aircraft over one frantic weekend, creating the jet‑powered layout we recognize today.
