Lt. Gen. Voorheis assumes command of AFLCMC

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio — Lt. Gen. Jason Voorheis officially took command of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center during an assumption of command ceremony at the National Museum of the United States Air Force here, Aug. 27., 2026.

The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) employs more than 21,000 personnel across the enterprise and is responsible for total life cycle management for aircraft, engines, munitions, electronics and cyber systems. Wright-Patterson is the Center’s headquarters.

Lt. Gen. Linda Hurry, Air Force Materiel Command commander, presided over the ceremony and opened by highlighting Voorheis’ accomplishments and the career path that ultimately brought him back to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

William Bailey, performing the duties of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, traveled from the Pentagon to say a few words during the ceremony, noting that Voorheis has one of the Air Force’s “finest minds,” praising his creativity and strategy. He also urged Center staff to meet their new commander with intensity and to embrace building the Air Force of the future together. AFLCMC employs more than 21,000 personnel across the enterprise and is responsible for the total life cycle management for aircraft, engines, munitions, electronics and cyber systems. Lt. Gen. Linda Hurry, Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) commander, presided over the ceremony and opened her remarks by highlighting Voorheis’ accomplishments and the career path that ultimately led to his taking command of the Center. Voorheis succeeded former AFLCMC commander Lt. Gen. Donna Shipton, who retired July 10 after nearly 34 years of Air Force service. During his opening remarks, Voorheis expressed his gratitude for Shipton’s leadership and contributions to the Center. 

“Thank you for your outstanding leadership during arguably one of the most demanding periods in the Center’s history. Your steady, thoughtful presence left an indelible mark on this Center and its people, and we are all better off because of your service,” said Voorheis.

Voorheis then turned his attention to the men and women of AFLCMC, thanking them for their work and emphasizing the Center’s direct impact on the warfighter.

“Just about every aircraft, weapon system, uniform, and piece of gear our Airmen take into harm's way is acquired, fielded, modernized, and sustained by the expertise within AFLCMC. You are the engine of our nation's defense,” said Voorheis.

Although Voorheis is stepping into a new role as commander, he is no stranger to the Center or Wright-Patterson. Throughout his career, he has served in several acquisition leadership positions, including as Program Executive Officer for Fighters and Advanced Aircraft, Portfolio Acquisition Executive for Command, Control, Communications and Battle Management, and as an executive officer to the AFLCMC commander. 

Voorheis reflected on returning to AFLCMC and expressed that there is no place he would rather be at this point in his career. He closed the ceremony with a message to the workforce as they move forward together.

“It’s an honor to serve alongside of you and I’m ready to get in the arena with you. Thank you, LET’S GET TO WORK!”
