Families of servicemembers deployed around the world came together for a night of fellowship at Tinker Air Force Base March 11.

Families enjoyed a catered meal served by leadership from across the base.

“There’s something that we say during retirements, that the toughest job in the military is being a military spouse,” said Col. Cisco Harris, Tinker installation and 72d Air Base Wing commander. “That’s the reason why we’re here tonight, because we realize deployments are tough on our families. But what we do best at Tinker is come together and support each other…this is what families do and you all are part of the Team Tinker family.”

Beyond the food, the goal of the dinner was to support and connect deployed families. More than a dozen base organizations were on hand to offer resources and answer questions.

More than 600 families live on base, with thousands more living in the surrounding communities.

Future dinners are already in the works. The base chapel currently offers community dinners, open to anyone with base access. The goal of these events is to create connections in a welcoming environment. Announcements for future events can be found on the chapel’s Facebook page.
