HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The 66th Air Base Group Safety Office has been recognized as the “Best Small Safety Office in the Air Force,” earning the prestigious Chief of Safety Outstanding Achievement Award.
This marks the first Air Force-level team award for the Team Hanscom Safety Office.
“This recognition is a testament to your hard work and dedication to Team Hanscom,” said Col. Jorge Jimenez, installation commander, in an email to the workforce. “Thank you for everything you’ve done to keep the team safe. Chief [Master Sgt. Jason Vollmer] and I are extremely proud of you. Keep up the great work.”
Air Force officials present the award annually to a safety office that demonstrates excellence in reducing workplace risks, improving compliance, and strengthening the installation’s overall safety culture.
The Safety Office’s efforts contributed to the protection of more than 10,000 personnel and $40 billion in Air Force research and development assets, according to Shaun Bassett, 66 ABG Safety acting director.
“Our team’s dedication ensures that every member of Team Hanscom can perform their mission safely,” he said.
Throughout 2024, the Safety Office has supported more than 190 facilities, identified 580 safety findings and provided targeted solutions.
The team also hosted safety courses for 113 personnel and partnered with other federal and military organizations to enhance regional safety initiatives.
Bassett, who captured an Air Force-level award in 2023, emphasized the importance of building strong relationships with units across the installation.
“Our focus has been on making safety accessible and relevant to everyone,” he said. “We prioritize working directly with units, ensuring they understand the importance of safety and feel comfortable reaching out to us for support.”
