Airman’s Attic brings holiday cheer to Hill AFB military community with food distribution event

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah --

The Airman’s Attic, a non-profit organization that serves military families, recently brought the spirit of the holiday season to the Hill AFB military community.

On Dec. 16, the organization hosted its third annual holiday food distribution event, which provided support to 150 military families.

According to event organizers, this year’s event was one of the most extensive to date and included a substantial donation of approximately 4,000 pounds of food from Operation Homefront, Kent’s Market, Hill AFB Commissary and American Legion.

A day before the event, the Utah Food Bank contributed another 8,000 pounds to the Airman’s Attic, with volunteers spending several hours sorting and bagging items at the Airman Recreation Center in preparation for the distribution.

“What made this event so special is that more than just food was distributed,” said Master Sgt. Eduardo Mata, 388th Fighter Wing Inspector General Office and event volunteer. “As families drove through the distribution line, families were informed that the Airman’s Attic also had diapers if they needed them, and even presents for their children all wrapped up and ready to go.”

Mata said the presents were donated by a Utah couple who provided $15,000 worth of toys for children. The toys were delivered to the Military and Family Readiness Center to be distributed to families.

“It goes without saying, but this year Santa put some very special presents under trees for several military families,” he said.

Mata credited Sharaya Woodwick, the civilian lead for the Airman’s Attic, along with her supporting staff of volunteers who successfully coordinated the event, including Gabby Unpingco, Tech. Sgt. Tyler Woodwick, Master Sgt. Dolores Fisher, Staff Sgt. Steven Goff, Kendra Stephens, Chelsea Cooke, and Senior Airman Devyn Houston.

“The Airman’s Attic may be small in scale, but it is significant,” he said. “The organization’s efforts have made a positive impact on the Hill AFB military community, and the third food distribution event is a testament to the organization’s commitment to serving those who serve our country.”
