HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Women’s Equality Day committee will partner with the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility office to host a Women’s Equality Day event at the Minuteman Commons at Hanscom AFB, Aug. 30 at 2 p.m.
Women’s Equality Day commemorates the ratification of the 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution Aug. 26, 1920, which granted women the right to vote.
“This event is being held to honor the achievements of women, celebrate progress toward equality, and inspire individuals in the audience to continue advocating for positive change,” said Tech. Sgt. Emily McCarthy, observance chair.
According to organizers, the event will include guest speakers who will tell their personal stories and share obstacles they have overcome to get to where they are now.
In a recorded message, Col. Taona Enriquez, installation commander, spoke about the annual observance.
“The past century has seen our country reach monumental milestones in the fight for women’s equality; however, that fight is far from over,” she said. “It is our duty to remain determined in reaching total equality and inclusion, leaving a legacy for others to emulate.”
According to organizers, Enriquez is also scheduled to speak during the Aug. 30 event, offering her perspective as a female installation commander.
Other slated speakers include Tracey Hall, 66th Force Support Squadron voting program manager; Kristin Wright, installation violence prevention integrator; Tech. Sgt. Katsiaryna Durant, 66th Medical Squadron NCO in charge Dental Clinic; and Staff Sgt. Mychelle Sarles, 66 FSS NCO in charge Force Management.
Enriquez will also sign a proclamation at the event to recognize Women's Equality Day at Hanscom.
The event is open to all with base access, including sister service members, federal civilians and retirees.
Light refreshments will be available.
