AFLCMC sponsored program offers graduate degree & opportunity with industry Published June 1, 2023 By Brian Brackens Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – Looking for an opportunity to get a master’s degree in data analytics and work for a Fortune 500 company? The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Personnel Directorate created a two-year Education with Industry Program for qualified professionals across the Department of the Air Force, that combines an advanced degree at the Georgia Institute of Technology, with experience working for Delta TechOps, which is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of Delta Air Lines. The program, which is currently accepting applications, is open to lieutenants, captains and majors in the engineering, logistics, or acquisition career fields. “This is a really good program,” said 1st. Lt. Ryan Miller, an Education with Industry Fellow, working full-time for Delta TechOps. “I’ve especially enjoyed my experience working for Delta. Everyone there loves their job and are very knowledgeable. Overall, it has been a very welcoming, family oriented environment.” At Delta, Miller works in the Reliability Program Office, where he helps investigate and identify the cause of aircraft maintenance issues. “We investigate [maintenance issue] and see how often it occurs, if certain airports specifically are having it [issue] occur more than others, and if certain airplanes are only having that problem,” said Miller. “Once we do our investigative analysis, we’ll work with engineering to see if we need to redesign an aircraft component or revamp the maintenance program. For example, with maintenance, say you’ve been changing the oil in your car every ten thousand miles, but now you’re having some engine problems that you think are the result of waiting that long. You could change the oil every 8,000 miles at the minimum, or maybe every 7,000 to be on the safer side, but then you have to do a cost breakdown to see if it’s fiscally responsible.” Miller is using what he learned at Delta, to form part of his capstone project at Georgia Tech, with a specific focus on revamping the process of identifying a problem and appropriately addressing it. Upon completion of the program, Miller will be assigned to the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Rapid Sustainment Office. Eligible personnel can apply for the program through MyVector by clicking on the “USAF AY24 Advanced Academic Degree/Special Experience Exchange Duties or AAD/SPEED Program" notification. Applications are due by July 31, with endorsements needed by August 25.
