Organizational symbol changes for Business and Enterprise Systems Directorate

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (AFLCMC) – The Business and Enterprise Systems (BES) Directorate, led by Program Executive Officer, Richard Aldridge, has been approved by the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) via Organization Change Request #22-36 to change its office symbol code from AFLCMC/HI to AFLCMC/GB.

BES delivers information technology mission support and service capabilities to military members, government civilians and contractor support teammates worldwide. In short, BES run the systems that run the Air Force, moving money, manpower, and materiel.

The change from AFLCMC/HI to AFLCMC/GB is strictly an organization symbol change:
-- No BES positions or personnel will move
-- No program will align elsewhere
-- The unit will continue to be called the Business & Enterprise Systems Directorate
-- Does not change the BES mission or vision statements

This organizational change recognizes the historical realignments that have occurred since 2008 when the Air Force shifted from numbered acquisition wings to Directorates led by Program Executive Officers/Directors.  When this shift occurred, the 554th Electronic Systems Wing Director was headquartered at Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts.  As a result, the Electronic Systems Command gave the unit the symbol HI to reflect (H)anscom and (I)nformation Systems.  The first letter represents headquarter location and second letter is portfolio mission area.

This new symbol change reflects the stand-up of the Program Executive Officer headquarters at Maxwell AFB-Gunter Annex, Alabama in 2010 and its directorate redesignation from Enterprise Information Systems to Business and Enterprise Systems in 2012.  Thusly, the symbol change is to reflect (G)unter Annex and (B)usiness and Enterprise Systems.  Implementation for incorporating the necessary organizational changes is currently underway within the Directorate and is estimated to take 2 to 4 weeks to complete.

BES remains focused on our mission to Operate, Integrate, and Innovate and enable Airmen and Guardians to fly, fight, and win – airpower and space power anytime, anywhere.
