On February 15, 2022, Marjana D. Zupcsan was promoted to the Senior Executive Service (SES) in a ceremony at Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) headquarters, Wright-Patterson AFB. Zupcsan is Director of Financial Management and Comptroller for AFLCMC.

Members of the SES provide counsel to Air Force leadership across the force. They serve in key positions just below the level of presidential appointees.
A career civilian, Zupcsan began her Air Force career in 1989. Throughout her career, she has held a variety of roles with increasing responsibility, all at WPAFB.
Kathy Sowers, Director of Strategic, Plans Programs, Requirements, and Analyses for Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), presided over the induction ceremony. Sowers is also a member of the SES. She also once served as Director of Financial Management for AFLCMC.

“Everything from tactical, technical jobs to very similar leadership positions within large, complex organization, her breath and depth makes her ideally qualified for her role,” Sowers said of Zupcsan during the induction ceremony. “Anyone who's ever worked with Marjana tells me they're amazed at her intellect, her professionalism, her calm demeanor and her ability to form and lead high performing teams that just validates what I already knew: we made a great choice selecting Marjana for the senior executive service.”

Zupcsan addressed an in-person and Zoom audience, noting her high school friends, the “babes of 85” provided great support during her SES journey. She recalled support from her late parents, family and a long list of coworkers.

“Back over the years - my 30 plus years - I will tell you I have I've been surrounded by so many outstanding people. They were always looking to embrace me, [to] help me learn, help me grow professionally and personally. They gave me many opportunities to excel.”

With gratitude, Zupcsan mentioned all the finance professionals working under her guidance, noting their ingenuity and tenacity to complete the mission, even in times of upheaval like government shutdowns, furloughs and uncertainty from continuing resolutions.

As part of the formal induction ceremony, the SES nominee takes an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. A lapel pin signifies membership as does a special flag featuring 13 stars and SES logo. The SES flag is displayed in a member’s office or when giving a speech.
