AFLCMC Commander Celebrated During Fini Flight
Air Force Life Cycle Management Center commander Lt. Gen. Donna Shipton was greeted by coworkers, family, and friends in a surprise celebration marking her Fini Flight at Wright‑Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, on May 12, 2026. The Fini Flight is a tradition among military officers in which members are hosed down with water by their peers, family & friends upon the completion of their final flight at their unit or upon retirement. The event usually concludes with a champagne toast. The tradition dates back to World War II and is a way of honoring their years of dedicated service to the nation. Shipton is scheduled to retire later this year.

Simulation & Training Forum Spotlights Air Force–Industry Collaboration on Next-Gen Readiness
Col. Nicholas Feranec, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Training Directorate’s Simulators Division senior materiel leader, answers a question from the audience during the 2026 Simulation & Training Community Forum (STCF), at the Dayton Convention Center, Ohio, April 22, 2026. Hosted by the National Training & Simulation Association (NTSA), the event brought together government, industry, and academic stakeholders to advance Air Force training and simulation priorities. The one day forum focused on strengthening collaboration with the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Training Directorate’s Simulators Program Office and major commands as they modernize readiness across the enterprise. STCF 2026 provided a structured venue for industry to engage directly with Air Force procurement and requirements leaders on emerging training systems, services, and enabling technologies. A series of panels brought together representatives from key commands and organizations—such as Air Combat Command, Air Education and Training Command, Air Force Global Strike Command, Air Mobility Command, Pacific Air Forces, Air Force Special Operations Command, Air Force Research Lab, and Headquarters Air Force A3T—to discuss current and future training demands. Dialogue centered on integrating high fidelity simulation into everyday training, enabling distributed mission operations, and ensuring that new platforms and weapons arrive with robust, interoperable training baselines from inception. AFMC civic leaders visit Air Force Life Cycle Management Center's Rapid Sustainment Office
A group of Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) civic leaders visited the University of Dayton Research Institute’s Integrated Technology Operations Center (UDRI/ITOC) near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, April 7, 2026, to learn about the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Rapid Sustainment Office (AFLCMC/RSO). The RSO’s deputy division chief Col. Todd Dawson explained the RSO’s mission and its role within the larger AFMC structure. During the visit the civic leaders, who had traveled from all over the country, learned about the collaborative work being done at the ITOC to bridge additive manufacturing to fielded capabilities. Brian Stitt, Director of UDRI’s Sustainment and Readiness Sector gave the civic leaders a tour of the relatively new facility so they could see first-hand the work being done to advance the efforts in technologies such as metals and polymer additive manufacturing, incremental sheet metal forming, repair with additive manufacturing, field training, quality inspection, post operations up to 7-axis machining and manufacturing stop gaps. “It was an honor to host our AFMC Community Leaders at the Air Force Lifecycle Management Center’s Rapid Sustainment Office,” said AFLCMC’s deputy commander Col. Chadwick Steipp, who was escorting the group. “The visit highlighted the advancement of sustainment technologies while drawing connections with the AFMC mission in our Community Leader’s home states.” (U.S. Air Force photo by Jim Varhegyi)
