HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – A Hanscom senior official discussed enterprise systems, Joint-All Domain Command and Control, and other topics during a meeting with Hanscom-area business leaders at the end of last month.
In his presentation to the Hanscom Representatives Association, Maj. Gen. Anthony Genatempo, the program executive officer of Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence and Networks, headquartered here, also provided details on how he is supporting the newly established Command, Control, Communications and Battle Management Directorate, or C3BM.
The Secretary of the Air Force appointed Brig. Gen. Luke Cropsey as the new integrating PEO of C3BM in September. The new office will have the authorities required to ensure integration of all C3BM-related programs throughout the Air Force in support of JADC2 and the Advanced Battle Management System, or ABMS.
Genatempo says that he will do his part to help make the new PEO successful.
“I have a lot in my portfolio that Brig. Gen. Cropsey and his team are going to need for developing JADC2 and ABMS,” he said. “Once they get going, they are going to be utilizing my programs, and those from other PEOs, because we already have the authorities and resources necessary to provide what they need, and that will give JADC2 and ABMS a lot of momentum.”
Genatempo also discussed how a lack of streamlined governance impacts his ability to deliver the enterprise capabilities that the Air Force needs, through programs like Enterprise IT-as-a Service, Cloud One, and Platform One. He added that the Secretary of the Air Force recognizes that a shift in strategy is required because currently the Air Force is not organized correctly to go after enterprise capabilities.
“Right now the Air Force is organized to obtain one F-16, one B-21, one missile, one computer, and so on. But when we talk about enterprise capabilities, like electronic warfare, who gets to be in charge of that? You can only move so fast in that type of organizational structure.”
The HRA brings representatives from small, large, and start-up Hanscom-area businesses together to encourage collaboration in the acquisition process.
Steven Wert, the program executive officer for Digital, updated the HRA on his portfolio Oct. 6.
Additionally, members of the Hanscom Small Business Office are scheduled to participate in an HRA panel Oct. 20.
