WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Beginning May 7, 2025, all visitors seeking access to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will be required to present a REAL ID-compliant credential, in accordance with federal requirements.
The REAL ID Act, sets security standards for state-issued identification cards and driver’s licenses. These cards are necessary for accessing federal facilities, including military bases like Wright-Patterson AFB, and boarding federally regulated domestic flights. REAL ID-compliant cards are marked with a star on the upper part of the card.
“The REAL ID Act creates a uniform standard across all states to verify the identity of an individual. The implementation of REAL ID at Wright-Patterson AFB continues to strengthen the security of our installation,” said Tech. Sgt. Logan Karnbauer, non-commissioned officer in charge, Installation Access Control.
If a visitor does not have a REAL ID-compliant card, they will need to present two valid forms of identification to gain access to the base.
For example, a visitor may present an original or certified birth certificate and a Social Security card as proof of identity. However, to avoid delays or inconvenience, it is recommended that visitors obtain a REAL ID before their visit.
Military personnel, civilian employees, dependents, contractors, and base residents will not be impacted by this change. These groups may continue to use their Common Access Card or Uniformed Services Identification Card for base entry.
Base security is a top priority, and adherence to these requirements ensures safe and efficient access to Wright-Patterson AFB.

Pass and Registration office remains available to assist in the execution of this upcoming change,” said Senior Airman Christopher Williams, Pass and Registration clerk.
