Wright-Patterson Air Force Base - As the Defense Health Agency continues to transform the way patients access care and providers deliver care, the Wright-Patterson Medical Center is pleased to announce a new virtual health care tool – My Military Health Scheduled Virtual Visits.

Scheduled Virtual Visits are video medical appointments that give patients the flexibility to meet with their health care provider from a location that’s convenient and comfortable for them. The new platform is safe, secure, and easy to use, making it the perfect option for anyone who wants to engage in their health care on their terms. Video visits do not replace in-person or telephone visits, they are simply another way to connect.

“We’re excited to offer patients another new way to meet their health care needs,” said Col. Michael Frayser, 88th Medical Group commander. “Video visits mean a patient doesn’t have to choose between their health and other commitments. And it means providers will have more ways to connect with patients be it in-person, over the phone or via a video visit.”

Health care on your terms

Joining a video visit is easy by using a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera, speaker, and a strong internet connection. The patient will receive a reminder email 24 hours and 30 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time and a reminder email and text message when it's time to join the appointment. They can also enter directly from the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal up to 30 minutes before the appointment time which means no extra logins or apps for patients to download. And since Scheduled Virtual Visits are integrated with MHS GENESIS, providers can easily access patient charts, provide referrals, enroll patients in other care programs, and schedule follow-up appointments.

If a patient doesn’t have access to a smartphone, tablet, or computer, they can still schedule an in-person or telephone appointment by calling the 88th Medical Group appointment line at 937-522-APPT [2778].

Next evolution of health care

My Military Health Video Visits is the next phase in our journey to make health care more accessible, convenient and holistic for patients. As of fall, 2024, patients can schedule primary care, pediatric, and mental health care video visit appointments through the appointment line. And later, specialty care clinics will also begin adding video visits as an option.

“Our patients want choices in how they receive their health care,” said Frayser. “When patients have options, they’re more likely to seek care and stick with a treatment plan, which leads to better outcomes.”

In the coming months, patients at the Wright-Patterson Medical Center will have access to other My Military Health features like appointment reminders, an online directory of primary and specialty care network providers, virtual waiting rooms, on-demand virtual visits and Care Companion, a digital platform that will keep them connected to their health care teams between visits.

“There are a lot of exciting innovations coming to the Wright-Patterson Medical Center. We’re looking forward to all the new ways our patients will be able to meet their health goals,” said Frayser.
