MAXWELL AFB-GUNTER ANNEX, Ala. -- The Integrated Logistics System – Supply (ILS- S) Program Management Office reached a significant milestone on July 16, 2024, by deploying the 50th release into its Cloud-based Production environment since migrating to the Cloud in 2020.
The releases included 2,235 technical, functional, security, process, and interface requirements that have improved not only system performance and security, but also enhanced the user experience. The releases contain system process enhancements that saved more than 37,000 man-hours over the last two years alone.
The program has consistently provided a balance of deploying functional and technical health requirements to improve the system’s performance, maintainability, and security. The program continues to maintain a release cadence of one release every month going back to 2020.
The tight-knit team is often recognized amongst other Logistics, Engineering and Force Protection (A4) systems for consistently delivering benefits to the warfighter and hovering on the cutting edge of business systems development within the Business and Enterprise Systems Directorate.
The monthly software releases include requirements that come directly from Air Force Logistics leadership, users, and enterprise business solutions.
ILS-S has mastered the use of agile processes to enhance the system while promoting flexibility within the program office. The ILS-S team is comprised of 10 civilian, 15 military, and 55 contractor personnel who dedicate themselves to “delight the user” while providing a service that influences everyday operations for 18,000 Airmen across over 250 Air Force active duty, guard, and reserve installations.
Users process over 225,000 transactions daily in ILS-S which totals more than 4,500,000 transactions per month.
One capability delivered in the 50th release was the highly requested introduction of a query date of the last inventory screen. This function allows the user to see the Date of Last Inventory based on the item record and detail types which makes that process quicker and easier for the user.
This request also highlights the relationship between the program office and the field users. Users can click “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” buttons located on each screen and then
comment on what they like or dislike about the system. These comments, recommendations, and opinions are sent directly to the program owner who reviews the inputs and polls the team and users to determine if a change is desired. Many of these inputs are then added to the requirements backlog and are worked each year.
This milestone is a significant achievement and shows the balance of leadership, premier expertise, and a mindset of relentless improvement that is evident amongst the ILS-S team. ILS-S will continue to strive for excellence for its valued system users in the future.
