AFLCMC engineering directorate team completes water tie-on project Published Aug. 6, 2024 By Allyson B. Crawford, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Public Affairs MARIETTA, Georgia (AFLCMC) - AFLCMC engineering directorate employees Natalie Williams, Alex Briskin, Col. Nathan Abel, Jared Scott and Patrick Shields do a ceremonial “turn” of the valve to mark the completion of the Air Force Plant 6 (AFP 6) Cobb County Water System Tie-on Project, in Marietta, Georgia on July 30, 2024. AFP 6 is in Marietta, Georgia and shares a runway with Dobbins ARB. The government owned, contractor operated plant is run by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics. A feasibility study and environmental assessment in 2013 determined the best alternatives for the wastewater treatment plant. Air Force officials decided to close the 80-year-old treatment plant at AFP 6 and connect to the Cobb County Water System. Active work on the water system connection began in 2019 and was completed July 1, 2024. In addition to Lockheed Martin, AFLCMC partnered with Cobb County Government, Cobb County Water System (CCWS), Dobbins ARB, Clay National Guard Center and Wells-Fargo Bank to get the project completed. (A portion of the infrastructure is located on Wells-Fargo property). All told, connecting to the local municipality for sanitary sewage treatment saved the Air Force $200M in plant upgrades plus an additional $1M in annual operating costs. The turning of the valve ceremony took place on the grounds of Wells-Fargo and featured local elected officials, the director of the Cobb County Water System and Lockheed Martin staff members.
