HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. Col. Jorge Jimenez assumed command of the 66th Air Base Group during a ceremony held at the Aero Club Hangar July 10.

Lt. Gen. Donna D. Shipton, commander, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, presided over the event.

“It is my pleasure to introduce Col. Jorge Jimenez and his family to the Hanscom family,” she said during her remarks. “He cares for mission, people, and our nation, and I know that he is going to bring that to this role.”

Shipton added Jimenez has the right background to lead the 66th Air Base Group and believes he will take the installation to new heights.

The group supports the Air Force acquisition mission, providing base, regional and readiness support for the AFLCMC three Program Executive Offices, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory, and a variety of other tenant organizations and a joint-service military housing community.

Prior to taking command, Jimenez served as Headquarters U.S. Indo-Pacific Command comptroller at Camp Smith, Hawaii. In this position, he provided fiscal oversight and financial management support to the INDOPACOM mission.

The new installation commander thanked Shipton for her leadership and participation in the ceremony.

“Thank you, Lt. Gen Shipton, for taking time out of your extremely busy schedule to be here,” said Jimenez. “Thank you for supporting Team Hanscom. I hear the task; I am all in ma’am.”

During the ceremony, Shipton recognized the outgoing commander, Col. Taona Enriquez.

“Taona, thank you for your leadership, for bringing your passion, your whole heart, to the mission of leading this team to a multitude of successes,” said Shipton. “You put the ‘team’ in Team Hanscom.”

Enriquez will retire after more than 23 years of service in the U.S. Air Force.

After accepting the group’s guidon, Jimenez spoke directly to members of the Hanscom workforce.

“Let me address the most important people, 66th Air Base Group personnel, you are the ones that make the mission happen,” said Jimenez. “I am looking forward to being part of this great team and contributing what I can.”
