HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Chapel officials hosted clergy members from diverse faiths throughout the local area during an Interfaith Clergy Day event here March 14.
The first-known gathering of spiritual leaders at Hanscom AFB aimed to build community ties and strengthen existing relationships.
"Today is a special chance for us to unite, strengthen our resolve, and deepen our community relationships," said Chaplain (Capt.) Robert Henry, who organized the meeting.
The diverse assembly underscored the installation's dedication to accommodating the spiritual needs of all its members.
“In the military we all come from different backgrounds, faiths and beliefs, but we all honor and respect each other’s,” said Col. Taona Enriquez, installation commander, who came to welcome the leaders to Hanscom AFB.
Many of the invited clergy had never been to an Air Force installation or had much knowledge about the military.
In addition to learning about the Air Force, participants had the opportunity to learn about Hanscom AFB's acquisition mission.
“These discussions provided clergy members with valuable insights into the base's role in research, development, and procurement of cutting-edge technologies to support national defense,” said Henry.
The day's agenda culminated in an open discussion, facilitating the forging of relationships and partnerships between the Greater Boston-area clergy and Hanscom AFB chaplains.
“This dialogue served as a platform for mutual understanding and future collaboration,” said Henry.
Jua Robinson, executive director at Boston Collaborative, highlighted the importance of events like this.
“People are making so many assumptions about each other, about what we believe, and what we don't believe,” said Robinson. “Opportunities like these allow all of us to come together, learn from each other, and build relationships."
According to Henry, the event stands as a testament to the installation’s dedication to fostering inclusivity, understanding, and unity in support of its community and mission partners.
