Happy July 4thThis Sunday marks the 245th anniversary since the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence – a date in which we reflect upon the creation of our sovereign nation.

For almost two and a half centuries, the enduring vision of our Founding Fathers has been made possible because of the courageous sacrifices by our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, Guardians, Coast Guardsmen and their families. Today, our warfighters are equipped and ready to continue to defend our freedom because of your outstanding dedication and commitment to deliver incredible capabilities to them.

This long holiday weekend will provide you the opportunity to travel to favorite destinations, visit relatives, attend backyard barbeques and participate in fireworks displays. Whatever you do, please be safe - exercise sound judgment, make good decisions, and do not take unnecessary risks. Continue to be mindful of local CDC guidelines and follow regulations concerning large gatherings.

Thank you for what you do every day. My family and I wish you a safe and happy Independence Day.
