Each February, the United States marks Black History Month.

Black History Month  started as "Negro History Week" in 1926, thanks to the work of black historian Carter G. Woodson. Woodson chose the second week of February because it coincided with the birthdates of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.

Through the years, the week grew in popularity and was marked in educational centers across America.

In 1976, President Gerald Ford formally recognized Black History Month. Since that time, every President has officially designated February as Black History Month. Each year since 1976, Black History Month has an endorsed theme. For 2022, the theme is "Black Health and Wellness."

The 66th ABG at Hanscom Air Force Base created a video to mark the important accomplishments of African Americans throughout the nation's history.
